Rajiv K. Garg
President and CEO
Wyckoff Heights Medical Center
Rajiv K. Garg, is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Wyckoff Heights Medical Center. Before taking on that role he was a Member of the Board of Trustees of Wyckoff Heights Medical Center. He joined the Hospital when it was in deep financial distress and his accounting, finance and information technology experience helped revive the institution.
Mr. Garg was recently nominated for Board of Membership at the Greater New York Hospital Association Class of 2010-2011. He is a keen advocate of healthcare reform. He authored a paper twenty years ago addressing the cost of chronic disease management in the U.S.Mr. Garg has been involved with a number of healthcare reform initiatives in the fields of diabetes, pediatric obesity and risk management. Currently he is working with other local hospitals in the Brooklyn area to form a merger or a “Northern Brooklyn health care alliance”. Mr. Garg understands that Wyckoff is unlikely to survive on a stand-alone basis, which is why he is looking to align with Brooklyn and interfaith hospital also located in Brooklyn. The consolidation would reduce the hospital’ costs and allow them to focus on improving patient access, care and outcomes. It could also lead to the formation of an accountable care organization under the federal health care reform law.
As a leader in the movement of world medical information technology, Mr. Garg has succeeded in providing the people of Bushwick and Western Queens the opportunity of obtaining a “Smart Card” a credit card-sized card embedded with a computer chip that can be used to securely hold patient identity and medical information.Currently Phase 1 of the project has been implemented at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center; the smart card containing patient’s demographic information has been rolled out in the Adult and Pediatric ER. The information is also available via a web portal, giving the flexibility of retrieving the information from anywhere. If his vision of the merger is successful Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, Brooklyn Hospital Center, Interfaith Medical Center and the community physician will start utilizing the Smart Card to store Patient Health Information which can then be shared to track patient population in the zip codes. The information from the three hospitals and the community physicians will flow to a central hub where the patient and the participating groups will have access to the shared data.
Mr. Garg holds an accounting degree with the Associates of Chartered Accountant of Wales. He began his banking career with Bankers Trust in England. As the youngest Global Business Manager for Credit Suisse First Boston in London. He was responsible for the creation of the Global Foreign Exchange Division. He subsequently earned the title of head of Global market Risk Management there, before moving on to serving as CFO and Executive Vice President of a public medical research company. In June 3, 2011 he was the recipient of the Honorary Degree from the American University of Antigua, an affiliate University of Manipal University in India.
Mr. Garg is the proud father of two children his son Chirag Garg, Graduate in Finance from NYU, Stern School of Business and his younger daughter, Aarti Garg, received a law degree from Yeshiva University, Cardozo Law School. He has been happily married to Mina for 29 years.
