Identity Management in Healthcare Webinar

The Smart Card Alliance hosted a webinar on September 22, 2009 to discuss identity management in healthcare.

Accurately linking patients with their personal medical information and managing patient information are significant problems today for hospitals, other healthcare providers and healthcare payers that impact administrative efficiency, revenue collection, legislative compliance and patient quality of care. This educational webinar provided a detailed review of how healthcare organizations are facing increasing regulatory challenges that will require new approaches to address patient identification and securely authenticating patient health data.

Presenters discussed the challenges with identity management in healthcare and the importance of establishing a secure, robust, scalable healthcare information management infrastructure. Paul Contino, Mount Sinai Medical Center, and Lawrence Carbonaro, The Memorial Hospital, presented case studies of their organizations’ implementation of smart patient health cards, highlighting the results that they’ve achieved in improving patient identity management.
