Smart Card Alliance and Secure ID Coalition Briefing: Securing Identity

On July 18, the Smart Card Alliance and Secure ID Coalition briefed members of Congress and staff about the best practices and standards for secure and private identity credentials.

The briefing featured a panel of experts who discussed the critical need to secure identity documents not only to verify people are who they claim to be, but also to ensure personal information is secure and citizen privacy is protected. The briefing focused on key identity issues, on how technology can be used to implement identity programs in the most secure manner, and on the benefits that smart card technology delivers that address both security and privacy requirements. The event also featured a demonstration of the range and security features of both contactless smart card technology and EPC Gen 2 RFID technology.
