Survey Finds U.S. Consumers Wary of Password Security for e-Commerce
RSA CONFERENCE 2008, April 7, 2008–With 57 percent of Americans afraid someone will steal account passwords when banking online and 38 percent who do not trust online payments, banks and other e-commerce providers have a long way to go to build consumer trust in the online channel, according to a survey of 1,000 U.S. adults conducted by TNS Sofres for Gemalto, the world leader in digital security. TNS Sofres is the largest custom research provider in the United States.

Insurance organization AOK to drive Germany’s first healthcare pilot program based on highly secure microprocessor cards
Stuttgart, Germany, March 27, 2008–Gemalto (Euronext NL0000400653 GTO), the world leader in digital security, today announces that its German electronic health cards have been successfully tested in pilot regions. Taking place in different regions of Germany, these trials test the infrastructure and components of the Gemalto solution before the nation-wide roll out in 2009.
The implementation of the smart health card is actually the most important project for the modernization of the public health system in Germany and also the largest project based on Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) technology in the world. It involves 80 million patients, 188.000 doctors and dentists, 2,200 hospitals and 21,000 pharmacies.

Amsterdam & Algiers, March 26, 2008–Gemalto (Euronext NL0000400653 GTO), the world leader in digital security, today announced that it has started the nationwide roll-out of Algeria’s first electronic healthcare project. Following the success of the pilot phase comprising 700,000 cards in five regions, this pioneering healthcare program in Algeria is poised for nationwide roll-out over the coming two years. This timetable is in line with the deadline set by CNAS (the Algerian national health insurance authority) under the terms of the contract won by Gemalto in 2006. Gemalto is prime contractor for the program, handling end to end implementation of the system for issuing and managing the seven million smartcards used by healthcare beneficiaries and providers.
