ID program to potentially reach 1.5 million cards over next six years
Amsterdam, Netherlands, November 29, 2006–Gemalto (Euronext NL0000400653 GTO), a world leader in digital security, today announces that it will provide its highly secure polycarbonate cards, based on Setec¹ technology, for driver’s licenses in Norway. The agreement with the Norwegian authorities calls for the supply and personalization of the cards and direct mailing to the end-user. The four-year contract will come into force on January 1, 2007 and includes an option for two additional years. Norway currently issues approximately 250,000 driver’s licenses per year.

PRINCETON JUNCTION, NJ, December 04, 2006–The U.S. government should reconsider using vicinity read RFID technology for implementing the passport card program, the Smart Card Alliance states in its response to the Department of State’s October 17 Federal Register notice announcing the technology choice for the program. The passport card has been proposed as an identification card for U.S. citizens who do not have passports to verify their identity at land and sea border crossings.

America’s 2nd Largest City Turns to SuperCom to Address its Mobile Credentialing and Incident Management Requirements

The first phase of the deployment will be in the fourth quarter of 2006.

Microsoft Tech-Ed IT Forum, Barcelona, November 21, 2006–Gemalto, a world leader in digital security, announced the winners of SecureTheWeb 2006 during an awards reception at the Microsoft Tech-Ed IT Forum in Barcelona. OAKLAND, Calif., November 17, 2006–The Bay Area’s TransLink® transit fare smart card today began the first stage of its regionwide expansion with the activation of TransLink equipment on all AC Transit and Dumbarton Express buses, all Golden Gate Transit buses and in Golden Gate Ferry terminals. The TransLink system will expand in phases over the next few years to include all other Bay Area transit agencies. BART, Muni and Caltrain are scheduled to activate TransLink throughout their route and stations network in 2007, with SamTrans and the Santa Clara VTA coming aboard in 2008, and 19 other Bay Area transit systems joining in 2009-10. The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) is spearheading the TransLink initiative on behalf of the Bay Area’s transit agencies.

PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) opts for contactless all-on-one-card solutions at its new prestige Swiss offices using LEGIC technology PricewaterhouseCoopers, the renowned and trustworthy partner of financial accounting, audits, financial and legal advice, and management consultancy decided for LEGIC. One of the challenges facing the new system was to provide a cleverly devised access system, to provide optimum security yet which at the same time was to be as easy to use as possible. PwC had even more requirements the new system has to fulfill: Employees ID cards were also to be used to make e-payments, book flexible workstations, and operate the “Follow&Secure” system, an innovative office automation concept. But with LEGIC’s contactless all-in-one-card technology it was a simple matter to bring all these requirements together. Corina Gerber, Facilities Manager at PwC: “We are very pleased with the new systems. Our expectations and requirements have been met in full.
