San Francisco, August 9, 2011–Visa Inc. (NYSE: V) today announced plans to accelerate the migration to EMV contact and contactless chip technology in the United States. The adoption of dual-interface chip technology will help prepare the U.S. payment infrastructure for the arrival of NFC-based mobile payments by building the necessary infrastructure to accept and process chip transactions that support either a signature or PIN at the point of sale.

Princeton Junction, N.J., February 7, 2011–EMV chip technology and the future of payments in the United States are the subjects of a new white paper released today from the Smart Card Alliance Payments Council. The paper, ”Card Payments Roadmap in the United States: How Will EMV Impact the Future Payments Infrastructure?” describes the current state of the payments infrastructure in the United States and identifies actions that stakeholders would need to take to issue EMV cards, and to accept and process EMV transactions.
